Ruffin, Thomas 1787-1870

Jurist; born in Virginia, Nov. 17, 1787; graduated at Princeton in 1805; removed to North Carolina in 1807; elected member of the State legislature in 1813, judge of the Supreme Court in 1816, serving until 1858, with the exception of four years. He was a member of the peace congress which met in Washington in 1861. He died at Hillsboro, N. C., Jan. 15, 1870.
