Johnson-Clarendon convention,

The treaty negotiated by Reverdy Johnson, while minister to England, dated Jan. 14, 1869. This treaty proposed a mixed commission for the consideration of all claims, including the Alabama claims. The treaty, which was the foundation of the subsequent successful one, was rejected by the United States Senate, as the provision made in it for national losses was not satisfactory.
