Weed, Stephen Hinsdale 1834-

Military officer; born in New York City in 1834; graduated at West Point in 1854; served against the Indians from 1857 to 1860; became captain of artillery in 1861, and served throughout the war on the Peninsula, at Manassas, South Mountain, and Antietam, and behaved gallantly at Chancellorsville, for which he was made brigadier-general of volunteers, Jan. 6, 1863. He commanded the 3d Brigade of the 5th Army Corps at the time of his death at Gettysburg, July 2, 1863.
