Wheeler, John Hill 1806-1882

Historian; born in Murfreesboro, N. C., Aug. 6, 1806; graduated at Columbian University in 1826 and at the Law School of the North Carolina University in 1828. In 1831, under a treaty with France, he was appointed secretary of the commission to settle claims of Americans for losses occasioned by the treaties of Berlin and Milan. He was treasurer of North Carolina in 1841, and minister to Nicaragua in 1854-57. His publications include History of North Carolina; Reminiscences and memoirs of North Carolina, etc. He died in Washington, D. C., Dec. 7, 1882.
