Dickerson, Mahlon, 1770-1853

Statesman; born in Hanover, N. J., April 17, 1770; graduated at Princeton in 1789; practised law in Philadelphia, where he became recorder of the city court. He returned to New Jersey, was elected a member of the legislature in 1814, governor of the Statein 1815, and United States Senator in 1816. He was Secretary of the Navy under Presidents Jackson and Van Buren. He died in Succasunna, N. J., Oct. 5, 1853.
