Endicott, William Crowninshield, 1827-

jurist; born in Salem, Mass., Nov. 19, 1827; graduated at Harvard in 1847; admitted to the bar in 1850; appointed judge of the Supreme Court of Massachusetts in 1873; became Secretary of War in 1885. Judge Endicott was a Democrat, and the unsuccessful candidate of his party for governor of Massachusetts in 1884. His daughter, Mary, married Joseph Chamberlain, English colonial secretary. He died in Boston, May 6, 1900.
