Henshaw, David 1791-1852

Author; born in Leicester, Mass., April 2, 1791; became a strong Democrat and a stanch supporter of free-trade policy. President Tyler appointed him Secretary of the Navy, July 24, 1843, but he served for a short time only, as his nomination was rejected by the Senate. He was the author of Letters on the internal improvement and commerce of the West. He died in Leicester, Mass., Nov. 11, 1852.
