Wadsworth, James 1730-1817

Military officer; born in Durham, Conn., July 6, 1730; graduated at Yale College in 1748; was a member of the committee of safety at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War; became brigadier-general of Connecticut militia in 1776, and major-general in 1777, when he was assigned to the defence of the coast towns of his State. Later he presided over the New Haven county court of common pleas, and was a member of the Continental Congress in 1783-86. He died in Durham, Conn., Sept. 22, 1817.
