1. (Machinery.) A small band of metal; as the ring which fastens the packing of a piston.
2. (Jewelry.) a. The part of a ring containing the bezel in which the stone is set. b. The flat surface which terminates the culasse or lower faceted portion of a brilliant-cut diamond. It is sometimes called the lower table or culet, and is one fifth of the size of the upper one.
