Massachusetts in the Rebellion.

The important work of preparing a trustworthy history of the part taken by Massachusetts in the late Civil War was commenced by William Schouler (Adjutant-General of the Commonwealth through the entire Rebellion), at the request of the late Governor John A. Andrew, and of many others among our most prominent citizens. This enterprise received encouragement from the Legislatures of 1868 and 1870, and was warmly supported by generous individuals who subscribed for tile work and induced others to subscribe. The result is found in
