Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon

a city of 8,500 pop., on Willamette River, 15 miles from its mouth, and 50 miles N. E. of Salem. It is at the head of ship navigation. The largest and most commercial city in Oregon, and center of a very large trade. Steamers run regularly between Portland and San Francisco.
