The Opera and politics.

--On Saturday week a new prima donna, Mile. Lacombe, made her debut at the New Orleans Opera House, in the "Favorite." The Picayune says: ‘"She achieved distinguished success, alike as actress and vocalist."’ The same journal gives some account of a political episode in the performance, as follows:

‘ "The performance was an interrupted one. The distinguished Senator of Illinois, Hon. Stephen A. Douglas, his amiable lady, and a party of his political and personal friends, were present by invitation of the manager.--On their entrance the performance was broken off, and the audience, mostly rising, gave them an enthusiastic welcome, which was silently but expressively acknowledged, while the orchestra played a succession of national airs. It was pleasant to see that Mrs. Douglas was particularly delighted with this spontaneous and unanimous testimonial to her distinguished husband."
