The servile population.
There never was a period in the history of the country when there was more perfect order and quiet among the servile classes, than at this time, when, according to the
Black Republican thieves, we should have insurrectionary volcanoes everywhere in full blast.--But the experiment at
Harper's Ferry ought to have satisfied them that the
Southern negro has no sympathies with Northern abolitionists, and that it is in vain to manufacture
John Brown pikes or hatchets, like those recently found near
Alexandria, for hands which are better suited for the plough and the hoe. Both our wars with
England and the whole history of the world, demonstrate that a slave population is an element of strength in war, and not of weakness or insecurity.
