Nice Situation.

--The Vice-President is allowed a private secretary, who is paid a salary of $1,700 a year out of the public treasury. The office is a sinecure. Mr. Hamlin has appointed his brother-in-law, the Rev. Mr. Butler, pastor of a Baptist church in Auburn, Maine, who will not be obliged to abandon his pastoral charge, as he will be required to perform no other duty than to draw the salary.
