Work for vigilance Committees.
--The Abingdon Virginian, of Friday last, has the following:
‘
We understand that the man
Faris, whom the citizens of
Marion, in the adjoining county of Smythe, tarred and feathered a month or two ago, for his Abolition sentiments, raised a Lincoln flag at his residence a few miles from
Marion on Tuesday last.
It was determined, we learn, to take down the flag on Wednesday, and hang
Faris to the pole, if he could be caught.
It will be remembered that a committee was appointed some weeks ago by the people of
Marion, to convey him to
Ohio.
They performed the duty, and on parting with him gave him fifty cents each, but on returning home found that he had arrived back a day ahead of them.
A brother of said
Faris is a Magistrate of
Smythe county.
On Tuesday last, all the Magistrates being summoned as is customary at the April Court, they refused to sit with
Faris, and he was compelled to leave the Bench.
He entertains like sentiments with his brother.
