The "Fortifications."

--Says the Alexandria Gazette, of Saturday: ‘"Some lads in the neighborhood of the Aqueduct, a few days since, planted two logs of wood upon the bluff near by, which the 'engineers'with spy-glasses from the opposite side of the river took to be cannon. Two Virginia pickets in that vicinity last night were fired upon by a body of Federal troops, who it is supposed came over to see the 'cannon.' " ’
