Pay of United States Volunteers.
--Some of those who have volunteered in the service of the
United States called on Wednesday to see
Col. Van Ness,
paymaster, about the time the volunteers were to receive their pay.--They were informed by
Mr. Carson, his clerk, that there was no money for them, and no provision had been made for their pay. They would have to wait until after the meeting of Congress, when an appropriation for that purpose would be made.
One of the Pennsylvania volunteers was much disappointed, and wept, saying that he did not know what he should do to wait until that time.
But there was no redress, and the volunteers can get no money from the
Federal Government until the appropriation is made by Congress for that purpose. --
