Preparations for removal.
--Preparations for the removal of the Departments have already begun, and it is thought the arrangements can be completed by the first of June, or at least early in the month.
The clerks in the various departments are already beginning to offer their furniture for sale, and the papers and records are being put in a portable condition.
It is the intention of the
Government to establish the department in
Richmond as soon as proper buildings can be secured by the committee appointed for that purpose, and as the Virginians have been anticipating the movement since the time
Mr. Stephens arrived there as
Commissioner, the procurement of rooms will be an easy matter.
We regret to learn that the removal of the
Government to
Richmond will cause the almost immediate departure from among us of the families of the members of the
Cabinet, who so entirely won our regard and esteem during their short residence in this city.
We understand that
Mrs. Toombs will leave so soon that she will be unable to receive her friends on Friday morning, as she intended.--
