Rio de Janeiro market.
--
Maxwell,
Wright & Co.'s Circular, of May 7th, says:
‘
Coffee — We are receiving fair supplies from the country, the weather and roads now being good, but the limited purchases which have continued to be made, under the influence either of necessity or of impatience, have interfered in some degree with the accumulation of stock, and prevented that decline in prices which we had every right to anticipate from the deranged condition of the market with reference to supplies.
How long this extraordinary state of things can be maintained we confess ourselves unable to foresee.
Sales since the 6th ult. amount to 160,000 bags, of which 68,000 were for the
United States, 68,000 for the
Channel and North of
Europe, and 29,000 for the Mediterranean.
Stock to-day at market, 160,000 bags. We quote lots for the
United States, 5∥900a6∥100; for North of
Europe, 6∥200a6 ∥400; for Channel, 4∥900a 5∥600; and for the Mediterranean, 5∥800a6 ∥.
