A singular Phenomenon.

--On last Thursday evening at 12 ½ o'clock, P. M., we witnessed one of the most singular freaks of a meteor that we have ever beheld. The mete or was one of great brilliancy. and when first seen by us was descending with great rapidity and in a line nearly perpendicular, seemingly from 40 degrees above the horizon, and West by North. When but a few degrees above the horizon it took an upward flight as though it had come in contact with some large body and formed almost the lines of a triangle, disappearing in the ascent. The sky at the time was cloudless, and the brilliancy was such as to completely absorb the light of the candle burning in the room in which we were at the time. The night was calm we were at the time The night was calm and sultry, with hardly a breath of air stirring.-- Hempstead (Texas) Courier.
