Worth trying.
--The following receipts have been furnished us by a most estimable lady, and we have the assurance of their having been attended with success whenever tried:
To Make Yeast.--Take a handful of hops, put them in four pints of water; boil them until half of the water is boiled away, strain it through a seive, then add a pint and a half of
corn meal, one tablespoonful of table salt, half a cup of cold yeast.
Let it rise well before using for bread; then to a pint of flour add two tablespoonsful of the yeast.
For Making Bread.--To a quart of flour put four tablespoonsful of yeast, a tablespoonful of lard, a tablespoonful of salt, one egg, water sufficient to make it a stiff dough, work it hard and well, put it to rise, when well risen work the second time, put it in the oven or pan you bake in, set it to rise quickly one hour, then bake; one hour is sufficient to have it well done.
