Southern Currency.
The Exchange Bank of this city is now receiving and paying out the notes of the following
Banks in the
Southern States:
In South Carolina.--All the Banks.
In Georgia.--
Savannah Bank of Commerce; State Bank of
Georgia and branches; Farmers' and Mechanics' Bank; Marine Bank; Merchants' and Planters' Bank; Planters' Bank of State of Georgia; Central Railroad and Banking Company.
In North Carolina--Bank of North Carolina and branches; Bank of Cape Fear and branches; Bank or Wilmington; Commercial Bank of
Wilmington.
The other
Banks of the city are at present receiving all the notes enumerated above under the head of
Georgia.
They all expect to receive the notes of all the Banks in the above list as soon as they can be heard from with reference to the proposition adopted by the late Bank Convention.
The Exchange Bank, however, has acted without waiting for the responses of those
Banks, taking it for granted that they will be favorable.
The balances between the Banks entering into this arrangement will be settled in Treasury Notes.
It will very much promote the convenience of the Banks and the public.
