Death of a good man.

--We learn from Danville that Colonel George Townes, of Pittsylvania county, is dead. He was one of the best and purest of men, and had for forty years filled various public stations, with honor to himself and fidelity to his constituents. He had frequently been a representative in the House of Delegates, and also the Senate, of Virginia, and was a member of the State Conventions of 1830 and 1860. Through his long life he had enjoyed the unanimous respect and esteem of his fellow-citizens. He was one of the most accomplished and courteous gentlemen of his day, and was one of the most considerate, kind-hearted and just of men.
