Indictments for issuing small Noes.
--The community will hardly realize the extent to which the banking laws have been recently violated, until a complete list of the offenders is made public.
Some of the names have been already published, and we have another instalment to add to-day.
The practice, though of recent origin, spread over the town with alarming rapidity, and specie of every denomination as quickly disappeared.
It has already been very pernicious in its effects, and it is no wonder that the popular voice demanded a suppression of the evil.
It is true that small notes still circulate; but if the issue is checked at this point, those now out will soon receive their quietus, the paper being of a flimsy texture and not calculated for long usage.
The Grand Jury of the Circuit Court had the subject under consideration again yesterday, and found true bills of indictment against the following parties, for issuing notes of a smaller denomination than five dollars.
