Somewhat indignant.
--An Abolition paper, called the
Eaton (Ohio) Register. thus speaks of
Secretary Cameron's order to
General Fremont, of the 14th ult., forbidding him to make any more contracts, repudiating his appointments, stopping payments of his checks, &c. The
Register says:
‘
"The order which was addressed to
Gen. Fremont, after the
Secretary's return from
St. Louis, by his Adjutant, is probably the lowest, dirtiest, vulgarest, and meanest order that ever was traced by any puffed up, second rate official.
It is a scandal, an out-rage, a burning disgrace to any reputable official, let alone the representative of the
Secretary of War.
We would rather now risk a pair of
Fremont's old boots to carry on the war than any man who would either.
write or endorse such as order.
And if such grumblers are to conduct the war, better submit at once.
Better capitulates as honorably as we may than have the terms distasted to us after our resources have been fritted away by such infernal, carping time-servers and self-inflated pimps."
