Railroad accident.

--An accident occurred on the Southside Railroad, last Tuesday, which was fearful in its nature, and it is really miraculous that it did not involve a loss of human life. When the down train from Lynchburg, with about 400 passengers on board, reached the high bank connected with the High Bridge, it was thrown off the track, and one car filled with passengers was literally crushed to pieces. The consternation was very great, yet no person was injured. Three cars were off the track. The conductors of the train were active in their efforts to aid those under their charge, and deserve much credit. The track at the point where the accident occurred is, we are informed, quite dangerous, and can never be better, as the bank resists all efforts to make it firm. It is to be hoped that the proposition to change the route, so far as is necessary to avoid the High Bridge, will be speedily carried into effect.

The train, after much delay, connected with the cars at the Junction, and the passengers reached this city at 2 o'clock, yesterday morning.
