Norfolk, Va, March 31

--The heavy firing heard at Newport News and Fortress Monroe to-day was occasioned by salutes, on account of the arrival of Vice President Hamlin and others.

Nearly a hundred transports, steamers, and other vessels, are in Hampton Road. No communication has been had with the enemy by flag of truce for several days. A large number of Federal troops have recently been landed at Fortress Monroe.
