Prisoned cannon balls

The use of poisoned cannon balls by the enemy at Corinth, if proved to be really a fact not only justifies but demands retaliation in the same kind of warfare. The poisoning of springs and streams of water, as recommended by Dr. Lemoine, of New Orleans, is one of many appropriate means of dealing with such a foe. When a people are driven to their mountain fastnesses, by poisoned weapons of war, they can make the sources of the water courses fountains of death to those below. A horrid resort, but we must fight the devil with fire, if necessary.
