A true woman.

--A soldier from a distant State, long separated from his family, has allowed as to read some portions of a recent letter from his wife, showing the spirit that animates the women of the South. We give an extract which has the ring of the true metal. The author is the daughter of the old ‘"Maryland Line."’

"You, too, are isolated, and I read with pain your heart-yearnings; but you are ' in for the war.' --otherwise, neither of us should wish it to be. Let us make the sacrifice complete by being ' cheerful givers.' Why should you put off your armor? And would I be the wife you take me for, to ask it? No, husband, never! Let he strive to do our whole duty, if it cost the life-blood of both. Yet let us strive to hope, too. that we may some day meet.-- The clouds lower, and are very dark; but He who rules the storm, guides even our little bark. Blessed thought! Let us trust all to Him.'

Can a nation be conquered when its women thus feel? Manhood says never, never, never.--Knoxville Register.
