Vicksburg, July 22.

--About half past 4 o'clock this morning two iron rams engaged the Arkansas, and attempted to bombard her by the Essex. The result-was a miserable failure. A shot through one of the port holes killed and wounded six or seven on board the Arkansas. The second ram, supposed to be the Monarch, turned tall, badly crippled.

The weather is dreadfully hot.
