--The New York World has the following notice of a new book about to be published:

Sheldon &Co. will publish, in a few days, a new novel, by Marton Harland, author of ‘ "Alone,"’ ‘"Hidden Path,"’ ‘"Nemesis,"’ &c., called ‘"Miriam."’ The large sale of her previous works has rendered Marion Harland the most popular female writer in this country. ‘"Alone"’ and ‘ "Hidden Path"’ each had a sale of about 40,000 copies. The scene of this new story is laid in the dark and bloody ground of Kentucky, and the work is dedicated to George D. Prentice, editor of the Louisville Journal. Marion Harland, although born and brought up in Richmond, Va., married and is now living in loyalty in Newark, N. J.
