From Eastern North Carolina.

All that we have from Eastern North Carolina is embraced in rumors of the meet indefinite and unsatisfactory character. One statement is, that the Confederates were compelled to retire from their strong position below Tarboro' on Thursday, after a severe commanding from the guns of the enemy, which lasted several hours. Another report is that the enemy have retired to the shelter of their gunboats, near Washington.

The Raleigh Journal, of yesterday, says that when Gov. Vanee left Tarboro', several days ago, he did not know where the enemy was, and adds that it does not believe it is known at this hour where they are.
