--The premium for gold yesterday was $2.25, as previously quoted, but Bank notes advanced about 10 per cent. The buying rates are 22½ for Virginia currency; 20 for North Carolina, and 23 for South Carolina and Georgia--selling rates, 25a30 cents.

Messrs. Tardy & Williams's auction sale of groceries took place yesterday. Brown sugar in hhds. sold at 66½a75 cts.; crushed sugar, $1.30; clarified yellow, 76a77 cts.; nails, 49¾ cts. per lb.; superfine tent, $17a$17.25; lard, 60 cts.; tallow candles 75a76 cts. The attendance was large, and the bidding for desirable articles active.
