--A special dispatch to the Chicago
Tribune says that an invitation has been sent to the members of the recent Democratic Convention at
Frankfort, Ky., by
Col. Gilbert, by Democrats of New York, to hold their Convention in Tammany Hall, New York, and they would be protected in holding their meeting to nominate a State ticket; that it is believed the invitation will be accepted, and the
Convention held about the 1st of March.
Senator Powell will be a candidate for Governor; that the probabilities are that there will be a triangular fight in
Kentucky, or three tickets run; and that the late dis of the Frankfort Convention produced much on both sides, and will be largely discussed during the present contest.
The Knoxville
Register hears that the people of
Kentucky are in a great state of excitement and confusion;
A gentleman who was at
Louisville at the time of the departure of some ten or fifteen thousand Yankee troops for
Vicksburg, informs us that they had with them some two hundred slaves that they had picked up in
Kentucky, and intended to take with them.
That the people rose up and apprehended nearly all of the negroes, and in so doing came with the
Yankee soldiers.
Several heads and ribs were broken with sticks and rocks, but no fire-arms were need.
We are further informed that many of the strongest Union men have become violent Secessionists, and a Union party will soon cease to exist in the
State.
