Death of a well-known man.

--George Raftin, the musician and barber, died in this city on Saturday, at an advanced age. He was one of the most widely-known colored men in the State, and was much esteemed and respected wherever known. Raised amongst gentlemen of the old school, he had acquired their habits and tastes, and was alike remarkable for his good sense and good manners. In other days he was an indispensable personage at festive and fashionable parties; with Bou Judab, the Scotts, and others, he made the music for the dance in the best circles, and at some of the fashionable watering places. He was a favorite to his latest days, and he and his colleagues were still often preferred to more classic performers, whose music was not more inspiring to the animated dance. Ruffin was a true Southern man, of gentlemanly instincts, genial temper, and good heart. He will belong remembered, and his memory respected by those who knew him.
