The Legislature.

The Senate met at the usual hour. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Minnegerode.

Resolutions of inquiry were adopted as follows: Of increasing the capital stock of the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad; of amending the act for the relief of indigent soldiers' families, so as to provide for those residing within the enemy's lines; of increasing the compensation of Commissioners of the Revenue; of reporting a bill to reorganize the State Penitentiary; of reporting a bill for the payment to A. Beckley, Brigadier-General commanding the 12th brigade of Virginia militia, $150 for services rendered by him, and of repealing or amending the Stay law.

A memorial was presented by Mr. Diliard, asking the Legislature to refund to him a sum of money improperly paid into the Treasury.

On motion of Mr. Carson, after a short secret session, the Senate adjourned.

In the House of Delegates, Mr. Flood introduced a resolution inquiring into the expediency of "authorizing the Banks of this Commonwealth to redeem their notes issued prior to the 1st of January, 1862, in Treasury notes of the Confederate States, by an act declaring that the said Banks shall be discharged from the payment of all such of their said notes as shall not be presented for payment according to their tenor in the Treasury notes aforesaid before the 1st day of July, 1864, unless it be made to appear that such notes as may be thereafter presented for payment as aforesaid have not been the property or in the possession of an alien enemy since the 1st day of January, 1862, and that said committee report by bill or otherwise."

A resolution was also introduced having for its object an appropriation for the benefit of the families of soldiers.

After which, on motion, the House adjourned.
