Died under the operation.

--Sergeant George Payne, of the 48th Georgia regiment, died recently in Richmond, while undergoing an operation which was being performed on his person. This young gentleman had the lower part of his face shot away at the battle of Fredericksburg, and strange to say, he recovered from his severe wound. He came to Richmond a short time back for the purpose of having an operation performed, with a view to restore his chin, but he died from the severe suffering which he had to undergo.
