The Salt of Life.

--The Montgomery papers state that principals there are endeavoring to flee into the salt works to elude the vigilance of the law that is after them with a vengeance. Bids for turn Shang salt have gone down to five, even to four and three dollars per bushel, and there is a prospect of its going still lower. It is even intimated that the patriotism of some individuals has arrived at such flood tide that they are willing to pay a moderate sum for the privilege of making salt for the suffering people. It is a good omen to see such falling off in the speculative tendency of the people — to see such sudden manifestations of patriotism.
