From East Tennessee.

We have a rumor, whether well founded or not we are not prepared to say, that the Confederate forces have captured and now have possession of Cumberland Gap.

An officer from Gen. Longstreet's command says that Knoxville is virtually in our possession, and would be occupied by our forces but for the prevalence of small-pox in the city. Longstreet's army is represented to be in fine health and spirits, well fed and clothed, with full confidence in themselves and leaders.
