War between the Unites States and France.

The editor of the Columbus Sun learns from reliable parties, direct through the lines from Chattanooga, that the Federal officers there, including General Thomas, consider a war between France and the United States inevitable, and so express themselves publicly. One of them, a Brigadier General, formerly an Ohio politician, was head to say that unless the "rebellion" could be crushed before the close of the ensuing spring campaign, the final success of the United States was extremely doubtful, as the Jeff. Davis Government would then have a powerful ally, operating from Mexico as a base. In case of failure to overrun Georgia and Virginia this spring, he thought New Orleans would be the first place attacked by the French Emperor.
