House of Representatives.--The
House met at 12 o'clock. Prayer by
the Rev. Dr. Duncan.
The Standing Committees, appointed by the
Speaker, were announced.
A special committee was appointed to investigate the charges against
the Hon. Williamson R. W. Cobb.
Several other special committees of minor importance were also appointed.
Mr. Clopton, of Ala, presented a memorial from
Mr. J. H. Winn, which was referred to the
Committee on Claims.
Mr. Blanford, of
Ga., presented a memorial from the citizens of
Georgia, asking relief from taxation.

Mr. Farrow, of
S. C., introduced a bill to secure a more extended circulation of the
General Orders, issued from the Adjutant and Inspector General's Office.

Mr. Haskell, of
Tenn., submitted a resolution of inquiry, t ascertain what legislation was necessary to equalize the prices of impressments in the different States.

Mr. Foote, of
Tenn., introduced a bill to facilitate the detection of fraud in the Quartermaster's Department, and disbursing offices generally.

Mr. Chambers, of
Miss., introduced a bill, to increase the pay of the clerk in the employment of the
General in Command at the seat of Government, from $1,200 per annum to $3,000, and to provide that such clerk, when employed, shall not be liable to any duty in the field.
