Bold Attempt at robbery.
--On Tuesday morning, about 2 o'clock, two burglars deliberately worked up to one of the front windows of the store of
Leon Schasp, on Broad, between 4th and 5th streets, and, dashing in one of the large panes, then ran off to see whether any one had been attracted by the noise produced from the broken glass.
In a few minuses the daring fellows, finding that no one had been drawn to the spot, again returned, and, crawling in the window, proceeded to select from the
show cases several sets of the finest silver
plated spoons, knives, and forks, and some articles of jewelry.--They were then proceeding to the back part of the store, in order, it is supposed, to hunt for the place of deposit of the money, when a gentleman who was passing by gave the alarm.
As soon as the fellows found that they were discovered a break was made for the front door, which they had taken the precaution to open from the inside, through which they effected their escape, passing within a few inches of the person who was watching their movements and endeavoring to collect the watch.
Each of the thieves had in their hands a pistol when they ran out of the store, ready to shoot the first man down who attempted to prevent their escape.
They were so much frightened, however, that they failed to bring anything away with them.
