Bread.

--The City Council some weeks ago passed a resolution authorizing the employment of persons to bake bread for the citizens at reasonable rates; and in accordance therewith, the contract for the upper part of the city has been awarded to Messrs. Hundley & Cance, and for the lower part to Messrs. Pleasants & Frayser. We have not been informed of the terms of the contract, but are assured that the loaves will be of good size, and furnished to the citizens as low as the cost of the flour will admit.--By this means extortion will be broken up, and we may reasonably anticipate that all the bakers will follow suit.

Since the above was written we have learned that the contracting parties are to sell bread to the public at fifteen per cent above the actual cost of material and manufacture, their operations to be conducted under the immediate supervision of a special committee of the Council.
