Hampton's raid — the location of Sycamore Church--Repulse of Gregg.

Petersburg, September 18.
--Hampton surprised and routed the Yankees at Sycamore Church on Friday morning at daylight, capturing two thousand five hundred head of cattle, three hundred prisoners, a large number of horses, and ten wagons. Sycamore Church is in Prince George county, about five miles east by south of the courthouse, on the stage road leading to Cabin Point.

Gregg's division of Yankee cavalry tried to intercept Hampton on his return, when crossing the Jerusalem plankroad, but was repulsed with ease.
