Broad Rock Races--Second day.
--Quite a large representation of turfites and fanciers of the blooded horse assembled at Broad Rock last Saturday to witness the mile-heat post-stake, for which three of the finest three-year olds in the
Confederacy were booked as contestants.
Up to the minute of starting, the Deucalion filly stood first favorite in the estimation of bettors, and large sums were staked at two to one on her winning; whilst the
Eclipse filly had her supporters at one to two, and the
Arlington gelding had his friends at the same rate.
At 2 o'clock, all arrangements being completed, the trio came to the score, and, getting the word, went off at a lively stride, the Deucalion filly leading the string, closely followed by the gelding, the
Eclipse filly bringing up the rear.
On nearing the back-stretch the
Lady quickened her pace, and passing the half-mile pole, made a terrific dash, lapping her competitors in a run of three hundred yards, giving them the go-by before reaching the quarter pole, then running home ahead, with comparative case, in 1:50.
In the second heat, the Deuallon filly again cut out the work, closely pursued by the gelding, the "
Lady" getting off badly.
On getting to the back stretch, the
Lady was thirty or forty yards behind, and no one supposed she was going for the heat; but before reaching the half-mile pole, her jockey made a call upon her, to which she promptly responded, and, moving as if on the wings of the wind, took the front position before reaching the quarter-pole, and ran home a winner in 1:48½

The third race, a post-stake, three mile heats, free for all ages, $2,500 entrance, the proprietor so add $2,000, will take place next Friday, when
Orton,
Oakland and Conductor are again to break lances.
Orion will probably be the favorite, as he won the two-mile stake last week; but both
Oakland and Conductor have their friends, and will be liberally backed if the weather proves favorable.
That an exciting contest will take place, we have very little doubt.
