Local Matters.
Discovery of a plot to Break out or Castle Thunder and murder the guard.

--Information was received by the officers at Castle Thunder yesterday that the prisoners (seventy-odd in number) confined in the citizens' room in that place, had made extensive preparations for escape last night. The report was, that each inmate had armed himself, by some means or other, with a knife and revolver; that three holes had been cut in different parts of the building, and that, at the going down of the moon, they were to make a simultaneous rush for these places of egress, and, if necessary, murder the guard who might oppose them. Search was made yesterday afternoon, and the holes described as having been cut through the building were found to exist, and several other facts, mentioned by the informant, found to be true. A certain lieutenant was designated as the leader of the gang; but he stoutly denied any complicity in the affair. He was, however, placed in closer confinement. Under the superintendence of Captain L. W. Richardson, the commandant of the prison, the examination of the prisoners and building was still in progress at a late hour in the afternoon, up to which time the revelations made of the plot were found to be correct in every particular.
