It is to be hoped that the Government and People will work together in providing for the wants of the soldiers now engaged in our defence. Not one of those noble and heroic men should be permitted to suffer for the want of sufficient food and clothing. The debt of obligation which the country owes them is incalculable, and the least that can be done is to see that not one of them remains unpaid, and that not one of them shall be curtailed of the necessaries of life. --We know that the people have rendered aid to this object, and but for that aid the army might be enduring great privations. The duty of relieving any wants that may still exist is alike incumbent upon the Government and the people, and both should co-operate to that end with energy and perseverance. Whoever does suffer, it must not be the soldiers of the army, who have endured and dared so much, and who are the sheet-anchor of our national salvation.
