an act to Amend and re-enact the First Section of the Seventh Chapter of the Code of Virginia (edition of 1860), and to Direct a Synopsis of the Election Laws, Poll Books, &c., to be Prepared, Printed and Delivered. Passed February 22, 1865.

1. be it enacted by the General Assembly, that the First Section of Chapter seven of the Code of Virginia (edition of 1860) be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:

"1. Elections shall be held in the several counties and corporations entitled to representation, and elsewhere as provided by law, for the election of Delegates and such Senators as are required by law to be elected in the room of those biennially displaced on the fourth Thursday in March, in the year 1865, and on the same day in every second year thereafter; for the election of Governor, Lieutenant-Governor and Attorney-General on the fourth Thursday in March, in the year 1867, and on the same day in every fourth year thereafter; for the election of Commissioner of the Board of Public Works, in each of the districts laid off for that purpose, as follows: In the first district, on the fourth Thursday in March, in the year 1865, and so on the same day for each succeeding district every two years thereafter; and for choosing electors of President and Vice-President of the Confederate States on the first Wednesday in November, in the year 1867, or such other day as Congress may determine, and every sixth year thereafter: Provided, that upon the order for a special election of electors of President and Vice-President of the Confederate States, under the requirements of the Confederate Constitution or laws of Congress, the election shall be held on the day specified by the officer of the Confederate Government whose duty it is to order such election, and for the election of Representatives in Congress on the first Wednesday in November, in the year 1865, and on the same day in every second year thereafter. It shall be the duty of the Secretary of the Commonwealth to prepare a synopsis of the several laws relating to elections, showing the duties and obligations of superintendents and other officers holding elections, accompanying the same with forms of poll books, of oaths of officers, and of returns of election. The same shall be printed by the Public Printer, and a notice shall be given in the newspapers in the city of Richmond, stating that officers of elections may obtain copies thereof by application to the said Secretary.

"2. This act shall be in force from its passage, and continue in force only during the war."
