By the Governor of Virginia.--a proclamation.
--Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the representation of this State in the Congress of the Confederate States, occasioned by the resignation of
the Hon. Robert H. Whitfield, late the representative from the district composed of the counties of
Norfolk, Princess Anna,
Nansemond,
Isle of
Wight,
Southampton, Sussay rry and
Greensville, and the city of
Norfolk; Therefore I,
William Smith,
Governor of the
Commonwealth of
Virginia, do hereby proclaim and make know that elections will be held in the said counties and city on Monday, the 10th day of April next, to supply the said vacancy; and the sheriffs of the said counties and the sergeant of the said city are hereby required to cause elections to be held, each in his respective county or city, and officers commanding military encampments and posts are authorized to have such elections held on the said 10th day of April next for a representative to fill the vacancy aforesaid.
