Meet him on this ground: that all men, when they make agreements with one
another, seal the articles and deposit them with persons whom they can trust,
for this very purpose, that, if a dispute arises between them, they may refer to
the document and so settle the point at issue. But when a man, after doing away
with the source of accurate knowledge, undertakes to deceive you with words, how
can you with justice put any confidence in him?
